This striking green stone is formed deep within the earth's crust and makes its appearance through volcanic activity.  In Hawaii the stone is involved in ancient folklore, said to symbolise the tears of the Goddess Pele - the goddess of volcanoes and fire.  In some cases peridot can even be formed when a meteor strikes earth!

This is a stone for prosperity and happiness.

Queen Cleopatra of Egypt actually wore peridot, not the darker green emeralds as initially believed, and is now the national gem of Egypt.
